Of Cabbages Kings And College Deans

By John Delonas

It is not the beast of burden
That cuts the crooked furrow;
But the man who leads from behind
His weighty plow.

It is man's heritage
To appoint one of those
As small as he;
One handsomer perhaps,
Or more dignified,
But less bright, intentionally.
From this small man so crowned
Great things are expected;
He has gold and power to accomplish,
But wages titanic war
With spoonfuls of inability.

God in his mercy did grant
These leaders great magic
Known as INVINCIBLE IGNORANCE,
Or a face of majestic gravity
To mask an empty mind.
